Big Island man 'swept away' identified

HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) - Big island police have identified the Puna man who was swept away by a flash flood in the Kawainui Stream in Pepe'ekeo.

Police say 43-year-old Ernesto Combes of Nanawale in Puna was caught by a flash flood and swept down river while fishing for prawns.

Police say it happened around 9 p.m. Sunday night. Firefighters managed to rescue Combes' girlfriend who was taken to a hospital in Hilo..

Fire Personnel are continuing their search for Combes. Police do not suspect foul play.
