Coast Guard continues search for Big Island fisherman

HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) - The search continues for a Big Island fisherman.

The Coast Guard resumed their search Monday morning for the man who's been missing since last week.

A friend last spoke to Mitchell Wailani, 80, on Thursday. Wailani said he had anchored his fishing boat in Pepeekeo, and had planned to fish until evening before returning to Hilo. Wailani hasn't been seen or heard from since.

A Hawaii County helicopter found Wailani's boat aground in Papaikou Sunday, with his gear still in it. Divers also found a shirt that may belong to the missing man.

Anyone with information is being asked to call the Coast Guard Command Center at 842-2606.
