HPD officer starts prison sentence

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu Police Department officer Boyd Kamikawa begins his 30-day prison sentence Friday.

The 53 year old's blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit when he plowed his car into a 61-year-old woman in a Chinatown crosswalk last year.

The victim, who still suffers pain, did not want Kamikawa to serve any time.

On the count of negligent injury, the judge gave Kamikawa 300 hours of community service.

The jail time was for driving drunk and driving twice while his license was suspended.
