Japanese visitor stabbed during attempted robbery

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 23-year-old man from Japan is recovering after being stabbed in an attempted robbery.

According to officials, the man flagged down police at an Aloha Gas Station in Waikiki at around 12:30 a.m.

He told cops a man tried to rob him at knifepoint in Palolo Friday night.

According to police, the suspect approached the convertible the man was riding in as it was preparing to make a U-Turn near the McDonald's and Waialae Avenue.

The suspect pulled a knife on him and demanded money. The victim was stabbed during the scuffle.

The victim was with a group of other Japanese visitors who got lost in Palolo while searching for Tantalus lookout.

Police are still looking for the suspect, who is described as a local male.
