PUNA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Big Island police are investigating an attempted robbery that occurred in Puna on Monday.
According to officials, a 20-year-old Kea'au man was driving on Highway 11 when he picked up a man near the Shipman Industrial park entrance at about 1 a.m.
As the driver turned in to the Fern Acres subdivision, the male passenger attempted to carjack him.
The victim was not injured in the incident, but told police that the suspect may have suffered an injury to his left thigh area.
The suspect was last seen running into the bushes.
He's described as "hapa" or mixed-race and is believed to be in his 20s.
He's between 5'9" and 5'10" and was last seen wearing a dark hooded jacket over a white T-shirt and dark blue knee-length shorts.
