Honolulu (HawaiiNewsNow) - Just out this morning, it's the hotel performance from May, when Japan arrivals were down 17%. The hospitality advisors figures show we took a hit, but the rest of the market was firm.

Statewide, Hawaii hotels ran two-thirds full, about 2% better than May 2010.  The improvement was the smallest in a year and a half.  Room rates were up about 10% on average.

In May most of the improvement was happening on Oahu and Maui.  The Big Island numbers got better because Hualalai Resort reopened, not because other hotels did better.

Kauai has since improved a lot, but in May it's hotels were still struggling.
