Happy Aloha Friday from Hawaii News Now! Your Fourth of July weekend is here. But it's been a busy news day here at HNN.
Here's what we're working right now for Hawaii News Now at 5 & 5:30 on KGMB & KHNL.
HSTA TO STATE: LETS GET IT ON!
The Hawaii State Teachers Association plans to challenge the state's unilateral implementation of its "last, best, and final" contract offer by either filing an "unfair labor practice" with the Hawaii Labor Relations Board or filing a motion in state Circuit Court -- or it may do both. This story is developing by the hour; Brooks Baehr will have the latest details starting at 5 p.m. on Hawaii News Now.
RESULTS OF WAIKELE BUNKER BLAST INVESTIGATION RELEASED
The Honolulu Fire Department and federal authorities released their findings into the Waikele bunker blast that caused the death of five men and injured a sixth. Jim Mendoza reports on the findings tonight at 5.
CRIMES WHILE ON THE LAM?
That's what authorities want to find out, if the four prison inmates from the Waiawa Minimum Correctional Facility committed crimes after they escaped. Remember: they were on the loose for two days before being captured. More on this tonight at 5.
PERMIT DENIAL AFFECTS KAILUA FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION
Bad news for those of you looking forward to the air show that's traditionally part of the Kailua Fourth of July Celebration. Why some red tape is to blame. We'll explain tonight on Hawaii News Now at 5:30 on KHNL.
Also tonight, Guy Hagi is "live" in Waikiki with your Fourth of July Holiday forecast. And Kelly Mumme will have the latest on our pau hana Aloha Friday traffic. If you're heading from work, please drive safe.
I hope you'll join Stephanie Lum and me for these stories and more on Hawaii News Now at 5 and 5:30 on KGMB & KHNL.
See you then!
