Firefighters put out 2 Hilo building fires

HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaii County Fire Department is investigating two building fires in Hilo.

The first fire broke at 7:50 p.m. in a seven-story condominium located at 1911 Kalanianaole Avenue.

According to officials, the fire occurred in the kitchen area of a fifth-story unit.

The fire was extinguished at 8:25 p.m. Damages are estimated at $25,000.

The second fire broke just before 10:45 p.m. at the Canario Building located on Haili Street and Kamehameha Avenue.

According to officials, the fire occurred on the west side building wall facing the Palace Theatre. Firefighters extinguished the flames just after 11 p.m.

Damages of that fire are estimated at $20,000. No injuries were reported.

The cause of both fires remain under investigation.
