KIHEI (HawaiiNewsNow)- Speed and alcohol may have been factors in a fatal crash on Maui Thursday night.
According to police, Robert Pimentel, Jr. of Kihei was heading northwest on Piilani Highway at about 10:45 p.m. when he lost control of a 1998 Toyota 4Runner.
The 48 year old hit a guardrail, flipping the vehicle over.
Pimentel and his 37-year-old male passenger were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the vehicle.
Pimentel suffered serious head injuries and died at the scene.
The other man was treated for minor injuries at Maui Memorial Center.
This is Maui County's seventh traffic fatality for 2011, compared to eight this time last year.
