HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Even after winning over 100 medals with Special Olympics Hawaii, Jenny Bensman is still making island residents proud from half a world away.
With a time of 1:56:07 in the 100-meter freestyle event, Bensman won her first gold medal at the Special Olympics' World Games in Athens, Greece.
Bensman, a 15-year veteran of the Special Olympics Hawai'i program, is one of 315 athletes representing the USA in a field of over 7,000 contenders from 185 nations.
Joining Bensman in Greece are fellow Hawaii competitors Nick Pang (powerlifting) and Louie Perry III (track and field).
The World Games officially opened on June 25 and will continue through July 4.
