Elderly victim in fatal Waikiki crash identified

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An elderly woman who was hit by a trolley in Waikiki Monday night has died from her injuries.

The accident happened just after 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Royal Hawaiian Avenue and Kuhio Avenue near the Duty Free Shopping complex.

According to police, 76-year-old Setsuko Furuya was in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash.

She was transported to the Queen's Medical Center in extremely critical condition, where she later died.

Police are investigating why the trolley driver did not see the woman.

Police do not believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
