Man dies following Keahole International Airport vehicle crash

KAILUA-KONA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Honaunau man is dead following a single-vehicle crash at Keahole International Airport on Monday.

The victim was identified as Newton K. Lesli.

According to officials, Lesli was operating a 2001 Sterling water tanker on Perimeter Road at 11:35 a.m. when he lost control on a curve in the roadway and overturned.

The 36 year old was partially ejected from the passenger door window and pinned under the tanker, which was filled with water.

Lesli was transported to the Kona Community Hospital where he later died.

According to officials, Lesli was not wearing a seatbelt.

Police believe speed was a factor in the crash.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
