JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM (HawaiiNewsNow) - Japanese high school students from Sendai got a special tour of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam on Friday.

The 24 students are from Ikuei Gakuen High School, a nonprofit school that promotes cultural exchange programs to foreign students.

The students are continuing their education in Hawaii while their school and homes are being rebuilt after the devastating Mar. 11 earthquake and tsunami.

In addition to exploring a C-17 aircraft, which brought over supplies during the March disaster, the students were able to meet the actual crew members who were part of the relief effort.

"When we get a chance to connect with people that we've helped in someway or another, it's an awesome opportunity, awesome feeling," Lt. Col. Patrick Winstead said. "So we're very privileged that they took time to come and meet us and get to see the C-17s that they saw flying."
