Alcohol Ban for Sandbar, Last Chance Fireworks, & Notorious Mobster Nabbed

Good morning. A lot is happening today at City Hall and the State Capitol. Here's a look ahead at news we'll follow on Sunrise and Hawaii News Now today.

SANDBAR ALCOHOL BAN

The state is considering an alcohol ban for part of the Kaneohe Sandbar. The safety zone would outlaw alcohol and disorderly conduct and comes in response to parties that have gotten out of hand on the Sandbar in the past.

NEW LANDFILL LOCATION

The Honolulu City Council will hold its second to last site collection meeting this morning for a future landfill. It's to pinpoint a potential location to replace Waimanalo Gulch. A final selection meeting is scheduled for July 21st.

LAST CHANCE FIREWORKS

Today's your final opportunity to buy a permit for fireworks for the 4th of July. Only 50 have been sold as of yesterday. Oahu permits cost $25 each and are good for up to 5 thousand firecrackers.

SURF DROPPING, BUT STILL SOME NICE SETS

Dan says the South shore swell is dropping, but it's still creating big surf. We'll have the latest conditions throughout the morning.

FBI NABS ONE OF MOST WANTED

James "Whitey" Bulger, a mobster wanted in connection with 19 murders, has been caught in California. Bulger was the inspiration for Jack Nicholson's character in "Departed." We'll have more on his arrest.
