HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow)- Board of Water Supply (BWS) crews have completed repairs to a broken eight-inch water main on Kalakaua Avenue near Beachwalk Avenue, but Hawaii Telcom crews need more time to complete their work at the site.

Board of Water Supply spokesman, Kurt Tsue, said for now crews will put a temporary steel plate over the site as a temporary patch then return Tuesday to finish more permanent road repairs. Tsue said the goal is to try and clear the roadway in time for the busy afternoon commute.

The water main break was reported Sunday afternoon. Crews restored water to affected residents at the Polynesian Plaza around 6 a.m., Monday morning.

Two lanes on Kalakaua near Beachwalk Avenue are open.

Drivers are advised to expect delays and to use alternate routes if possible.
