MANOA (HawaiiNewsNow) - The University of Hawaii men's basketball team will have to forgo one of its key players of its 2011-2012 recruiting class.
According to UH head coach Gib Arnold, junior college guard DeShawn Mitchell will not play in the Rainbow Warriors' upcoming season after failing to meet NCAA academic requirements.
The 6-foot-5, 207-pound wing player was previously at Snow College located in Utah. There, he averaged 23.8 points per game for the Badgers and was the fourth-leading scorer in all of junior college.
Prior to his season with the Badgers, Mitchell played at UNLV during his freshman year. He then transferred to Rider University located in his home state of New Jersey, however, sat out that season.
Mitchell was one of six UH recruits for the 2011-2012 season.
