State to discontinue 'SPAP' program

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - More than 43,000 Hawaii residents will soon have to pay more for their prescription medications.

Beginning July 1, the state will discontinue the State Pharmacy Assistance Program (SPAP).

The program helps subsidize co-payments for Medicare prescriptions for low-income seniors.

The program cost the state 1.5 million this past fiscal year.
