Hawaii's unemployment rate drops

HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for May has dropped to 6 percent while jobs decreased by 2,400. The state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations said Wednesday there were 38,150 without jobs last month.

In April, Hawaii's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.1 percent.

Nationwide the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased to 9.1 percent last month from 9 percent in April.

The only major sector that saw job growth in Hawaii was construction where 1,700 jobs were added.

The professional and business services sector saw the biggest decrease with a loss of 1,400 jobs.

Employment in financial activities remained stable.
