Horse dies from injuries after trailer overturns on freeway

PEARL CITY (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaiian Humane Society said a horse that was injured when its trailer tipped over on the H-1 Freeway has died.

Witnesses said a strong gust of wind likely caused the trailer to overturn just after 11 a.m. in the west-bound lanes of the freeway before the Pearl City off-ramp.

Bystanders helped corral the horse, which had gotten loose and sustained several scrapes and bruises. The cause of death is unknown at this time.

Several lanes of the freeway were shut down, causing a traffic back-up for motorists.

All lanes were re-opened shortly after 12:30 p.m.
