Speed & alcohol apparent factors in early morning crash near airport

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Speed and alcohol are likely factors in a crash that has left a man in the hospital in critical condition.

It happened at about 4:45 Sunday morning on Kamehameha Highway near Valkenburgh Street.

Traffic investigators say the 22-year old driver was headed west-bound when he lost control of his truck, slamming into a concrete freeway support pillar.

He sustained severe head and chest injuries and was rushed to the Queen's Medical Center.

He was not wearing a seat belt.
