South Kona police seek driver in fatal pedestrian hit and run

CAPTAIN COOK, Hawaii Island (HawaiiNewsNow) - Police are looking for witnesses in a hit-and-run crash that killed a man in South Kona Friday night.

According to traffic investigators, a man between 35 and 45 years old was walking along the shoulder on Hawaii Belt Road near mile marker 108 in Captain Cook when he was hit by a vehicle. The driver then fled.

The pedestrian was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officers described the suspect vehicle as a Chevrolet pickup truck or Blazer, possibly silver in color, with extensive front end damage. A negligent homicide case was opened.

Anyone with information is being asked to call Big Island police.
