State celebrating King Kamehameha with lei draping, parade

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - In preparation for the King Kamehameha parade, the statue in downtown Honolulu will be draped in traditional lei Friday afternoon.

The event is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Volunteers began stringing lei Friday morning. Anyone interested in donating flowers, specifically plumeria, can drop it off at the statue.

The lei draping will set the scene for Saturday's 95th Annual King Kamehameha celebration parade.

It will begin at 9 a.m. at King and Richards Streets, and end at Kapiolani Park with a ho'olaulea from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The parade will be broadcast live on KFVE from 9 a.m. to noon.
