HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Retrials are underway for two Honolulu police officers charged in separate criminal cases.

On Wednesday, jurors began deliberations in the sex assault trial of Officer Michael Tarmoun. He's accused of raping a Waikiki prostitute.

Tarmoun denies the allegations, saying he told the woman to leave his apartment as soon as he realized that she was a prostitute. The defendant's first trial ended with a hung jury earlier this year.

Meanwhile, in another courtroom, the second trial for an HPD officer accused of attacking a motorist began Wednesday. Officer Scott Valdez is accused of reaching into a car during a traffic stop and hitting the driver.

His first trial also ended with a hung jury.
