WAILUKU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Maui County Council recently approved a final budget to bring back funding to nonprofit organizations without increasing the minimum property tax.
On Tuesday, council members approved a $564.74 million plan to use money initially earmarked to replace an old fire truck and for watershed protection programs.
In order to keep the minimum property tax at $150, council members had to approve a $2.4 million spending cut, mainly in grants to nonprofits including Special Olympics, Project Graduation and Hospice Maui.
