HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Residents and businesses in the Waipahu and Waiau area may be without power.

According to the Hawaiian Electric Company, a major outage was reported in the central Oahu area, leaving 2,200 customers without power.

HECO says there have been reports of small pocket outages and surges in Kailua and Kaneohe, but power has been restored to most of the area.

About 1,000 customers in the upper-Kalihi area are also without power.

Anyone concerned about electrical equipment should follow the manufacturer's instructions (i.e. surge protectors).

Anyone who experiences is a power outage or knows of a downed power line is asked to call HECO's trouble line at (808) 548-7961.
