HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii is presenting a special screening of "Great Grandfather's Drum" - a documentary that celebrates Japanese American culture and history in Hawaii. It is an intimate and joyful portrait of Maui Taiko, descendants of plantation workers and of elders who lived this history.
Maui Taiko President Kay Fukumoto dropped by the Sunrise studio to tell us all about it. Check out the video.
The film will be shown Saturday, June 4 - 10:00am to 12:30pm. Tickets are $15 (includes bento lunch) and $10. Money from tickets sold will benefit the Fukushima Earthquake & Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund.
