Man who died in Hilo hit-and-run identified

HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) - Big Island traffic investigators have identified the man who died in a hit-and-run on Saturday.

Officials say 22-year-old Theodore Braxton was driving his moped when he was hit by a van turning left on Kinoole Street.

The driver of the van, identified as 41-year-old Keolaokalani Kailianu, continued on to his Banyan Drive home dragging Braxton's moped about a mile.

Police arrested Kailianu and charged him with first-degree negligent homicide, drunk driving and fleeing the scene.

He posted $10,500 bail and was released from the Hawaii Community Correctional Center on Tuesday.

Braxton, of Huntingdon, Penn., was a student at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
