HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 25-year-old man is in police custody after allegedly hitting two pedestrians near Ala Moana Shopping Center early Thursday morning.

According to officials, Nainoa Haaheo Andrade was driving under the influence when he traveled down Kona Street at around 2:30 a.m. near Ala Moana Center.

According to police, Andrade's car crossed over the grass median and slammed into a 20-year-old man in a wheelchair on the other side of the road.

Andrade also hit a woman who was near the man.

The female pedestrian is in good condition and the male pedestrian was upgraded to serious condition.

"We just saw him tilt over, he was bleeding all over, critical condition. The lady looked like she broke her left leg," witness Chancellor Kim said. "She was limping after that. And our other friend was right there when we was talking, he tried to pull the wheelchair away, but I guess the brakes were out or something. He just tried to yank, but somebody told him just move out of the way."

Andrade fled the scene, but was later arrested at Pumehana and Algaroba Streets in McCully.

He was arrested for first-degree negligent injury, operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant and fleeing the scene.
