HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A former Honolulu police officer, who was shot while trying to rob his blind father, was sentenced to 18 months in jail Wednesday.

Kip Orton stormed into his parents' Laie home armed with a knife, and demanded money and his father's prescription drugs. The ex-officer was shot in the chest during a struggle with his 72-year-old dad, who is legally blind.

The 18-month jail term was part of a plea deal that Orton's parents signed off on.
