2 hikers rescued from volcanic vent

BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - Big Island firefighters rescued two hikers who wandered off a trail leading to a volcanic vent on Monday.

According to officials, a 28-year-old man and 32-year-old woman were hiking in the Kahaualea Natural Area Reserve when they got lost in a rain forest.

Firefighters were able to locate the hikers' position through cell phone contact.

No injuries were reported.
