Kalihi commercial building damaged by early morning blaze

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow)- A commercial building in Kalihi caught fire early Tuesday morning.

The fire broke at about 12:40 a.m. on Mokauea Street.

When Honolulu Fire Department crews arrived to the scene, they found heavy flames in the back of the building and three vehicles on fire.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire before serious damage was done.

The flames were under control just before 2:15 a.m.

Three businesses were affected by the blaze including one company that just opened last month.

The Ohana Shells & Hula Supply Company has been in business since October 2010. According to the owner, they just moved a third of their inventory to the storage unit located next door.

Koele's Ono Mochi also started up its business around the same time.

An an employee from Car Audio Evolution says they've been in business for about a month.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.

Damages to the building and its contents are estimated at $400,000.
