Big Island police setting up DUI checkpoints

BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii county police will set up DUI checkpoints beginning Thursday through the Memorial Day weekend.

According to officials, nine people have died in traffic related accidents on the Big Island and more than 500 DUI arrests have been made this past year.

Police want to remind the public to drink responsibly and to always have a designated driver or take a cab.

    An eviction gone wrong on the Big Island ended with after a lengthy standoff and the arrest of two people Monday evening.  According to police, the landlord of a home in the Hawi area of North Kohala attempted to evict a couple from the home around 9:45 a.m. During the eviction, the couple, identified as 27-year-old Lucas Wolf and 28-year-old Britney Wolf, showed resistance and acted aggressively, police said.  Britney then allegedly fired a single shot and...
