HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 60-foot-long tree fell down on Tantalus Drive Thursday morning.

The incident was reported just after 8:20 a.m.

City road crews cut the tree into 10 pieces.

According to officials, each piece weighs between 80 and 90 pounds.

Officials believe the cause of the tree falling was wind related, but the tree was probably hollow and rotten.

City official Clarence Carvalho says they receive calls for fallen trees about once a month on Tantalus Drive.

"When the winds pick up, that's when these rotten trees snap," Carvalho said. "This is where the drifters come flying down, it's not safe."

The road was closed in both directions, but was reopened at 10:33 a.m.
