WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Local builders, developers and designers are being urged to go "green."

The Hawaii Build and Buy Green Expo was held Tuesday at the Hawaii Convention Center.

More than 25 presentations talked about green resources, successful local LEED projects, renewable energy developments in Hawaii and green jobs.

This is all part of the state's mission to bring Hawaii to 70 percent clean energy by 2030.

"What is being done today to make their lives better, the buildings that they live in more environmentally health," said Caroline Shon, State Energy Office, DBEDT. "We have a whole range of opportunities for people to learn and grow and contribute to the community even more."

The conference is organized by the Department of Health, Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, the U.S. Green Buildings Council and Economic Development and Tourism.
