UH Basketball team seeking funding for Asia trip

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors Basketball team needs help this summer.

The team is traveling to Asia to play five games against some of the world's best. The tour includes stops in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo and Osaka. During that time, the team will play five international exhibition games and partake in numerous cultural activities.

However, the Warriors' cost is more than previously thought. UH has raised part of the $100,000 price tag, but much more is needed to cover other travel expenses.

"We're putting together a package deal to where the fans can join us and a portion of that is probably going to our travel as well and our summer school and things like that," Rainbow Warriors Head Coach Gib Arnold said. "We're going to do it. The only thing we're waiting on is if I can bring any subs yet or any assistant coaches. Right now we're about half way there."

The trip is from Aug. 6 through 21. Anyone interested in traveling with the team or contributing to the cause can visit www.WarriorsToAsia.com or call the men's basketball office at (808) 956-6501.
