KONA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii Hotel & Lodging Association president Mufi Hannemann presented a $5,000 donation to the Kona Village Resort on Monday to help tourism workers affected by the Mar. 11 tsunami.

"This support comes at a critical time for our visitor industry employees, who've lost their livelihoods because of the natural disaster," Hannemann said.

The money was donated to the Kona Village/Hualalai Relief Fund, which will help these workers while they seek new jobs or await the reopening of closed properties.

The Kona Resort Village is closed indefinitely, putting 230 employees out of work.

The Hualalai Ohana Foundation, a non-profit organization supported by businesses and individuals, is accepting donations.
