'Click it or Ticket' campaign kicks off Monday

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsnOw) - The State Department of Transportation and all four county police departments kick off the "Click it or Ticket" campaign Monday.

The state law requires all front seat drivers and passengers, as well as back seat passengers under the age of 18, to wear seat belts.

"The simple act of wearing a seat belt can protect you and your family from serious injury or even death," said DOT Spokesman Daniel Meisenzahl. "Buckling up to avoid a fine is the incentive, but buckling up to save a life should be the goal. A seat belt will increase your chance of survival by 45 percent."

Younger children must be in safety seats.

The fine for failing to buckle up is $92, and $100 to $500 for not buckling up a child.
