Unexploded ordnance destroyed in Kapa'a

KAPAA (HawaiiNewsNow) - On the Garden Isle, an unexploded ordnance caused quite a stir for residents in Kapaa Saturday.

It was discovered on the beach by a 15-year boy who brought it home late Friday night. The next morning, Kauai police were called to help secure the scene and evacuate several homes in the area.

At about 6:30 Saturday night, a team from Schofield Barracks arrived on Kauai to remove the device. When efforts to disable it failed, additional equipment was flown in, and it was successfully destroyed at about 11:00 Sunday morning.

Army officials say the device was a World War II era French-made marine sea marker.
