Hawaii arrivals by air for April and the first few days of May, from all airlines, were down about 23 percent, according to figures separately posted by the Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism.

JAL also took 18,000 passengers to destinations on the North American mainland and 17,000 to Europe, down 29 percent and 33 percent, respectively, from Golden Week last year.

JAL carried 38,000 passengers to China (down 26 percent), 30,000 to South Korea (down 28 percent), and 21,000 to Taiwan (down 25 percent), the company said.

Guam traffic fell 53 percent from year-ago levels to about 4,000 JAL Group fliers.
