KAPOLEI (HawaiiNewsNow) - West Oahu drivers will soon see some traffic relief.

The state Department of Transportation is expected to open a new H-1 Freeway westbound entrance and exit ramp on Monday, May 16th.

The new ramps are part of the H-1 Kapolei interchange complex project.

They'll provide a new westbound on-ramp from Makakilo Drive, and a new off-ramp leading to Farrington Highway, near the Wet N' Wild water park.

"This is gonna be huge for people. It's gonna free up some traffic, not just coming down this way, but all through Kapolei town", said Department of Transportation spokesperson Dan Meisenzahl.

The second half of this construction phase, including the east-bound H-1 on and off ramps, and the new Wakea Street extension are expected to open in August.
