HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Thirty-five local businesses will be featured as part of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation conference in Honolulu in November. They may be able to show their product to President Obama, in person. They may find a new market in Malaysia or secure funding from the Philippines.

The APEC 2011 Hawaii Business Innovation Showcase was announced during a press conference in Honolulu Tuesday.

"In total we'll have 15,000 to 20,000 people here for APEC leader's week, and we really believe that this provides us with truly an unprecedented opportunity to showcase our community, our businesses, and our opportunities," said Hawaii Host Committee Chairman Peter Ho.

"We have numerous businesses doing great things right here in the islands, albeit flying somewhat under the radar. We believe the Hawaii Business Innovation Showcase will help put a spotlight on some of these deserving businesses and industries," Ho said.

Businesses that apply for the opportunity to be featured will be judged on export potential, leading edge innovation, growth potential, environmentally sound practices, and job creation among other things.

The host committee will be accepting applications online from the more than 30,000 registered businesses in Hawaii until June 30th, and will notify the awardees on September 1st.
