Kauai rescuers resume search for missing swimmer

KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Kauai Fire Department has resumed its air and sea based search Friday for a swimmer who went missing Thursday.

Rescuers, with the assistance of the U.S. Coast Guard, continue to search waters along the Na Pali Coast for a 63-year-old male visitor from the Czech Republic whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Today's search is concentrated between Kee Beach and Hanakoa Beach, within a half mile from the shoreline.

The man was swimming in waters off of Hanakapiai Beach at around 1 p.m. Thursday when he began having difficulties. A hiker in the area notified Kee Beach lifeguards of the distressed swimmer.
