Waimalu robber was using crystal meth at time of death

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The man who shot and killed by police following a robbery in Waimalu was high on crystal methamphetamine at the time, according to the city Medical Examiner.

Dr. Kanthi De Alwis, who performed the autopsy on Herbden Gabriel, said Thursday that the cause of death was injuries to his lung and subclavian artery due to a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Gabriel, 46, allegedly stole a cell phone from a massage parlor before he was gunned down.

Preliminary toxicology screen was positive for methamphetamine.
