HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The newly elected Board of Education held its first meeting Tuesday.

As the previous elected board members stepped down, they applauded the board's newly appointed members.

They started their first session with public testimony, something Chairman Donald Horner said they hope to do from now on.

Horner also said he is impressed with the new members. "They're engaged (and) asking very good questions."

Tuesday's assigned committee chairs are:

Cheryl Kauhane Lupenui- will head the Student Achievement Committee.

Wesley Lo- will head the Finance and Infrastructure Committee.

Jim Williams- will lead the Human Resources Committee.

Chairman Horner- will head the Audit Committee.

The board will meet again on May 17, and on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
