Real Estate of Mind: Historic Homes

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Not everyone who is shopping for a new home, is actually looking for a new home. On today's "Real Estate of Mind" we focused on the attraction of older homes and some of the reasons they could be a perfect choice for you.

Diane O. Ito, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties says there are many who love the character and cultural heritage of an older home, one with architectural detail and craftsmanship. Ito says areas such as Manoa, Nuuanu, Kaimuki and even Diamond Head are rich with homes older than 50 years that share this style and grace.

If you would like to help preserve, conserve and protect an historic older home, there are incentives to register your home on the Hawaii Historic Home Registry. One incentive is a sizable tax break. More information is available from the Historic Hawaii Foundation.

A good example of a beautiful older home currently on the market is the property at 2826 Coconut Avenue, listed by Coldwell Banker Realtor Stuart Wade. That home is on both the Hawaii Registry and the National Registry.

Coming up on Sunday, May 1 you will have the opportunity to see more than 30 beautiful old homes that characterize Manoa Valley.   Malama Manoa's Historical Walking Tour starts at 9:00 AM and will take you on McKinley St. around to Rocky Hill.
