HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Michael Edward Manning, Jr. and Mark Ah Nee have been identified as the suspects involved in a attempted car jacking and massive police chase that shut down Kalanianaole Highway Thursday.
Manning, 35, was arrested on one count of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and three counts of first-degree robbery.
Police say Manning and Ah Nee, 28, were seen stealing a maroon-colored Honda in the University area at around 3 p.m. Thursday. Police spotted the car after it hit a guardrail on Kalanianaole Highway near Ainakoa Avenue.
Police say Ah Nee fired a shotgun at officers and attempted to carjack a truck before he was shot by police. He died at Kuakini Medical Center.
Ah Nee had nine prior arrests including three for robbery and car theft.
Police say Manning fled the scene and carjacked a Lexus after punching the driver in the face. Police say Manning crashed the Lexus during a police chase, and tried to steal another truck before he was caught.
Manning remains in police custody. Police say he has an extensive criminal record.
