Mission Houses Museum bookkeeper indicted for theft

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A bookkeeper who confessed to stealing $50,000 from her employer is now facing felony charges.

An Oahu Grand Jury indicted Judy Vierra Tuesday for allegedly overpaying herself while working for the Mission Houses Museum.

Reports say Vierra paid herself overtime and increased her salary.

A museum spokesperson responded by saying they've "implemented increased oversight and internal financial controls," and "we remain committed to ensuring that each donor dollar is put toward the preservation and interpretation of this important site in Hawaiian history."
