Outdoor warning sirens to be tested Thursday

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The city in conjunction with State Civil Defense will be testing outdoor siren warning systems in the following areas on Oahu Thursday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The sirens are located at:

* Maili South - Beachside of Farrington Highway near Kaukama Road

* Crestview Park - Waipio Area

* Waimalu Elementary School in Aiea - Kokohead of Kaahumanu Street off Moanalua Rd

* Upper Nuuanu - Pali Highway and Waokanaka Street

The tests are being conducted to ensure that these sirens are operating at full power and providing optimal range.

Residents and businesses in the surrounding communities may hear several 20-second siren soundings during the testing periods.

State Civil Defense funds the purchase and installation of these sirens. Once they are installed, they are released to the city for monthly testing and emergency activation.
