KANEOHE (HawaiiNewsNow) - The family of Justin Kelii says the 29-year-old unexploded ordnance technician was "just starting to get into his career" when he was a killed in an explosion at a Waikele storage bunker Friday.

Kelii's employer, Donaldson Enterprises, Inc., has a contract to store confiscated fireworks before they're disposed of.

"We'd always question how safe his work was. He never wanted us to worry," Jaymee Kelii said.  "The odd thing is Justin loved fireworks.  New Year's day was his favorite day of the year."

She said the Kelii family is anxious to know what caused the blast.

The accident also killed Bryan Cabalce, Neil Sprankle, Kevin Freeman and Robert Leahey.
