Aloha! Here are some of the stories we're working on for Hawaii News Now at 5 and 5:30 on this Aloha Friday.
DEADLY EXPLOSIONS IN WAIKELE
A series of deadly explosions rocked a self-storage facility in Waikele early this morning. Two people are confirmed dead and two people are unaccounted for following the industrial accident at the HIDC Small Business Storage. We have reporters covering this story from multiple angles and will have the very latest. We'll also show you exclusive video from above the scene with our Sky News Now chopper. Our coverage begins tonight at 5pm.
FALLEN MARINE CHOPPER WRECKAGE REMOVED
Piece by piece, today Marine crews air lifted the wreckage of the downed Marine Helicopter off the sandbar in Kaneohe Bay. The wreckage was taken to Marine Corps Base Hawaii for further inspection. Tim Sakahara will have a full report, tonight at 5.
MORE "APPOINTED" BOE MEMBERS GET "YES" VOTE
Today, four more members of Governor Neil Abercrombie's appointed Board of Education received "yes" votes from the Senate Education Committee. They now move on -- along with the other 5 appointees -- to the full Senate for a final confirmation vote. Today, the BOE candidates were peppered with questions from Senators. We'll take you there, tonight at 5.
GOVERNOR ABERCROMBIE'S LOW JOB APPROVAL RATINGS
According to the Daily Kos, our Governor is not doing so well. In a poll conducted last week of 898 registered Hawaii voters, 48% said they approved, 41 percent said they disapproved and 11 percent weren't sure of Abercrombie's performance. Richard Borreca, of our media partner, The Honolulu Star-Advertiser, will join us live in studio to discuss the Gov's latest job approval numbers. That's tonight at 5:30.
I hope you'll join Stephanie Lum and me for these stories and more on Hawaii News Now at 5 and 5:30. See you then!
